Correct Keyword Density

Correct keyword density is not a fixed percentage that works for every page.

Short answer: there is no universal correct keyword density. A useful density range depends on topic, page length, search intent, phrase length and how naturally the phrase fits the page.

The better question is whether the target phrase appears where it helps the reader and whether the page uses enough natural variation to avoid sounding repetitive.

Why fixed percentages fail

A short service page can feel stuffed at a low percentage if the same phrase appears in every heading. A technical guide can repeat a term more often and still read naturally because the topic requires it.

The percentage is only a signal. The surrounding copy decides whether the phrase is useful.

A better review method

  1. Check whether the target phrase appears in the title, H1, intro or a useful section.
  2. Review exact-match repetitions.
  3. Replace forced repeats with close variants.
  4. Add related terms where they clarify the topic.
  5. Read the final page aloud.

Warning signs

  • the exact phrase appears in nearly every paragraph;
  • headings repeat the same wording;
  • sentences feel written for the keyword instead of the reader;
  • related terms and examples are missing;
  • density is adjusted without improving the copy.

Next step

Use the keyword density tool to find the number, then use the keyword stuffing checker if the exact phrase appears too often.
